A Week's Worth of Wonders. April 9th, 12th and 14th.

Easter Sunday... on the way home from Andrea's mum's house, we stopped by a spot on a busy urban street where we have seen snakes before. It was cool but sure enough, an urban Garter was resting under a piece of concrete.

Surprise snakes are the best snakes!

Andrea hit the same spot on her way home from the train station on Wednesday the 12th. She scored a similar urban Garter, though it is a different one.

Friday the 14th, I was off (again) and it was going to be a hot day... hitting 90°. We took a morning walk to look for, you guessed it... urban Garters. On the edge of a car place, in a pile of leaves blown up against a chain-link fence, the strangest place on Earth to see a wild animal, two Garters were thinkin' 'bout love.

On her lunchbreak, we took a hike over at the dens but it was over 90° and if there were still any snakes at the dens (which I doubt after this hot week), they were laying super low. A couple of Redbacks saved the day, as they often do.

Much to our delight, there was a plump Bullfrog, our First of Year, showing us his good side.

We went out after she finished work, too. Hey, we were on a roll. We went into Norfolk County in hopes of a Milk, DeKay's or Ringneck to add to our year. It was still pretty warm, but cooling rapidly. I was flipping warm rocks and logs along the Alley. One log had nothing under it... from my vantage point. Andrea stopped me before I put it back. She had spied our FOY Ringneck!
Kinda hard to call this lil fella a whole snake, but he's sure a cutie!

That was it for reptiles and amphibians on the day, but we were very happy. Two FOYs and we ended with this Red-winged Blackbird (#60) splitting his head in two making the noise that I most associate with Spring!

Not a bad week. Just wait till you see the next day! Our Saturday was great!
